Is partner dancing an edge for you?
Does it make you uncomfortable asking someone to dance?
Is the intimacy of dancing closely with someone sometimes overwhelming?
YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
Lots of people feel that way, especially when just learning or starting to partner dance. Learning something new is humbling. Being close to someone is vulnerable. It’s totally normal to feel out of your comfort zone in partner dance, AND it gets easier! And it can become really fun and satisfying!
Cocréa’s Slow, Saucy and Sacred weekend experience is the perfect place to lean into that edge and gently broaden your comfort zone. You will be in a tight container with other brave humans that encourage and support you in exploring the discomfort, challenges and sometimes awkwardness of partner dance. With over 22 years of facilitation experience under our collective belt, we are highly skilled in teaching you not only the techniques to practice and play with, but also the space, openness and support to fully integrate and embody what you are learning. We offer a holistic model for learning partner dance, presence and attunement that makes it fun, interesting and relevant to the rest of your life and relationships.
You can expect to leave this weekend feeling nourished, surprisingly satisfied, confident and proud of yourself! Whether you ever dance again or not, (and we certainly hope that you will!) you will find this practice and experience extremely beneficial to your overall well-being as an authentically embodied human.
We’ll emphasise how we can notice and move with awareness of our sensual energies as they arise within a dance, and how to hold these energies in their highest possible light. Our sexual energy is the energy of creation, our vital life force. As such, we will be moving in the realm of honouring the sacred in everyone with our dance, and with our touch, by celebrating and owning our pleasure and turn-on for ourselves.
Moving into the sharing and exchanging of that energy can happen when we’ve received the full consent of our partner, and we will set our container with clear agreements as a group as to what feels totally delicious for everyone as far as that type of exchange goes.
Creating a container imbued with safety is my primary interest so that everybody can feel comfortable and excited to be exploring and inviting more pleasure in their dance with the Sacred Other.
For this iteration of the Slow, Saucy and Sacred container, we will be graced with ceremonialist and sadhaka, Malina Dawn. She brings breath work and indigenous wisdom to yogic practice in the mornings, and song throughout our container to enhance and deepen our listening and presence on all levels.
Meet the Facilitators
Wren LaFeet
Wren is celebrating the exquisite privlige of getting to dance in partnership for almost 25 years now and loves serving humanity as a somatic permissionary. Teaching partner dance internationally as a practice for mindful, authentic living, and enlivening communities by facilitating his signature modality, Cocréa, has been his joy for over a decade. Wren guides humans curious about embodiment towards right relationship by exploring the realms of Self, Earth, Music, Sacred Other, Community and Whole through listening and responding, and inviting, allowing and embracing change. He is a celebrated TEDx speaker, featured author in "ReInhabiting the Village" and ardent proponent of pioneering a new renaissance through authentic connection and consensual touch.
Wren is a cis-gendered, able bodied white male residing in Cherokee territory (Asheville, NC). As a psychonaut, consensual non-monogamy practicing, non-binary identified, 11th generation American descended most recently from artist and blue collar working class parents, Wren is in a deep reckoning with the numerous and nuanced aspects of self that influence how we navigate interpersonal relationships and cultural identity on the journey into right relationship.
As a Danyasa trained facilitator, former Awake at Work program facilitator, certified Attunement Therapy practitioner, Do Good Things with Power program graduate, and holder of a BA in Drama (the study of human conflict) and Dance from the University of Washington, Wren promotes dance as an embodied approach to spirituality and medicinal salve for our modern ailments of disconnection and dislocation.
Believing in life as a dance, Cocréa is a continually evolving holistic movement modality intended to bring individuals into strong, empowered, expressive relationships with their bodies and their communities.
At its core Cocréa is a somatic methodology for working with life’s changes and adapting with them for a more regenerative, nurturing and harmonious world. We build resilience by holding an attitude of curiosity and interest, pausing with depth of breath, listening into what’s needed and true when offering new ideas, and before saying yes or no to invitations.
Malina Dawn This human experience is a trip. Somedays I love it, other days I struggle. Yoga has given me a brave space to learn, unlearn, feel my feelings, to grieve, to celebrate, to love myself deeply and integrate the spectrum of experience I have in this body, mind, heart. It has given me an anchor to a space within that witnesses, loves unconditionally and holds me when the waves of life hit me hard.
I have been captivated by the reverence, devotion, ritual, spiritual science and service of bothYoga and my own Cree Métis culture. Both roads have been my saving grace. They are good medicine. They let me fall while feeling held and empower me to rise up stronger and clearer than before. My daily inspiration comes from my own healing through these deep rooted medicinal cultures.
Healing through cultural teachings has shown me how to offer a decolonized practice that resonates with anyone seeking true healing. I aim to share with students, how to be in the body with gentle confrontation, with compassion, with curiosity, with humour, with courage, with honesty, with love.
It is in the body and through brave community that we heal our personal, intergenerational and collective trauma. Together, may we find a somatic pathway that hits just right and leads us to our own inner knowing.
Expect to unravel from the inside out until you are warm, melty and remember what relaxation feels like. I am also a philosophy geek, so expect to contemplate and question reality, society, identity and really, everything, while I play some sweet tunes in the background.
