Description
The GRAMMY Museum is thrilled to welcome GRAMMY-nominated artist Ibrahim Maalouf joined by special guest Angélique Kidjo for an intimate conversation discussing his latest projects, incredible collaborations, musical roots and influences, and more. The conversation will be moderated by music journalist Steve Hochman and following the conversation there will be a performance.
Spotted by living legend Quincy Jones and described as a "Virtuoso" by the New York Times, Ibrahim Maalouf has gone from being the winner of the world's greatest international classical trumpet competitions to the most popular jazz artist on the French music scene.
Ibrahim received his first GRAMMY nomination last year for his album Queen of Sheba (Best Global Music Album) that he produced and composed with Angélique Kidjo. Rolling Stone and SPIN called the album "the most interesting album of the year".
Last November, and only a few months after releasing Queen of Sheba, he released his 17th album Capacity to Love featuring Gregory Porter, Pos of De La Soul, D Smoke, Cimafunk, Tank and the Bangas, Erick the Architect, Alemeda, JP Cooper, and many more. The album even features Sharon Stone, including a music video that received great coverage from NPR, the New Yorker, and more.
Born in Beirut during the war in Lebanon, Ibrahim’s family fled to France, where he eventually learned how to play the quarter tone trumpet, an instrument his dad, Nassim Maalouf, invented. The quarter tone trumpet represents his sound and is what makes his collaborations so interesting.
