Description
The GRAMMY Museum is thrilled to welcome rising artist Ravyn Lenae to the Museum’s Clive Davis Theater for an intimate performance and conversation about her critically acclaimed debut album HYPNOS, her creative process, career, and more.
For as bold as Ravyn Lenae’s voice may be, her lyrics suggest an unparalleled level of intimacy—as if she’s whispering her life story directly to you and no one else. The Chicago-born and Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter channels classical technique through skyscraping delivery, balancing extremes with finesse, focus, and fire. Now boasting over 300M worldwide streams and counting, Ravyn honed her voice through intense classical training at Chicago’s High School For the Arts, inspired by a broad range of artists, from India. Arie, and OutKast to Antonio Vivaldi and Reynaldo Hahn. She initially introduced herself on the 2016 Moon Shoes EP, which yielded “Free Room” [feat. Appleby]. However, 2018’s Crush established her as a fan and critical favorite. “Sticky” amassed over 32 million Spotify streams. Pitchfork hailed it as “the sound of a promising young talent maturing into her own signature style,” while The Needle Drop dubbed it “some of her boldest material yet.” Billboard praised it as “one of the most sumptuous supple, meditative and detailed dispatches from a soulful young singer’s mind in recent memory.” Along the way, she toured with SZA and attracted a devout fan base of her own. Landing a major sync, she also contributed “Rewind” to Insecure: Music From The HBO Original Series, and it appeared during a key moment. Most recently, Ravyn released her debut album HYPNOS which currently has 20M+ total audio streams. Raved by Pitchfork, Billboard, Complex and OkayPlayer the album is declared to be “best albums of 2022 so far” by multiple national publications. Only five days after the release of her debut album she achieved more than 75 playlist placements and debuted at #5 on Spotify, while also receiving an 8.5/10 Pitchfork album review. Widely praised as a sensational live performer Ravyn headlined her own HYPNOS Spring/Summer US and UK tour, selling out the LA show in less than two days. To celebrate Black Music Month Ravyn brought her unique funky and futuristic vibe to the NPR Tiny Desk concert and permeated the room with her soulful, R&B sound. The young artist is rapidly forging her own lane into the world of female R&B.
