Description
To kick off 2016, we present three of the best singer/songwriters workin in the world of folk and country music today – Steve Seskin, Craig Carothers and Don Henry, trading songs and stories “in the round.”Richmond’s own Steve Seskin is one of the most successful writers working in Nashville today, with a boat load of songs recorded by Tim McGraw, Neal McCoy, John Michael Montgomery, Kenny Chesney, Collin Raye, Peter Frampton, Waylon Jennings, Alabama, Mark Wills, and Peter Paul and Mary. His song "Don't Laugh At Me" was a finalist for CMA "Song of the Year" in 1999, and has spurred an entire tolerance movement, launched by the Don't Laugh at Me Project. Originally from Portland, Craig Carothers makes his home in Nashville, TN. He's recorded and released ten albums in the last twenty years. His songs have been recorded by Trisha Yearwood, Kathy Mattea, and Peter, Paul, and Mary, just to name just a few. Craig Carothers’ latest album, Road Work, collects live recordings from the past 20 years. The Birmingham News has praised his “smart, memorable material put across with abundant personality” and Patty Larkin says he “has a voice that should be famous.” Craig’s a cynic, a romantic, and a writer of songs that provide a great showcase for his charm and wit. This is Craig’s second performance for Point Richmond Acoustic.Don Henry The wit and wisdom of Don's songs are widely renowned whether it's campfire favorites, the hilarious "B.F.D." and biker lullaby "Harley", to the wonderfully poignant tribute to Martin Luther King "Beautiful Fool", and of course his Grammy Award winning country classic "Where've You Been" sung by Kathy Mattea. In addition to Mattea, Don’s songs have been recorded by legends like Ray Charles, Patti Page, and Conway Twitty, as well as by Blake Shelton, Lonestar, and, most recently, Miranda Lambert.Don Henry, says Entertainment Weekly, “comes across as a first cousin to Randy Newman, writing hot-wired songs about born-again whores, interfaith marriages, and the homeless taking over the White House. This is funny and thought provoking stuff, all of it good.” He’s shared the stage with a vast array of artists from Keith Urban to Joey Ramone. His songs tend to be both funny and thought-provoking, and he sings them with great tenderness and humor. He and Craig have a recent album, 2-FBYCR (two if by car).
