Description
The Stokehouse Precinct building, located on St Kilda Beach, opened in late 2017 and was built after a devastating fire in the old Stokehouse. The building is a result of the collaborative talents of Robert Simeoni Architects, Pascale Gomes-Mcnabb, George Livissianis and the Van Haandel Group. It is home to Stokehouse – one of Melbourne’s most iconic restaurants; Pontoon, a beachside bar and eatery; and Paper Fish, a seasonal fish-and-chip kiosk. Stokehouse Precinct will be the first Five Star Green Star rated building of its type in Australia. The Green Star rating is given based on the sustainable design, construction and operation of the building. The nature of a hospitality building provides unique challenges in achieving this rating, which will be discussed in the walking tours. Many innovative technologies have been utilised in the building including ‘E-water’, solar power, onsite composting, sustainable and recycled materials, geothermal heating and cooling, and low-carbon concrete.
