Join local artist Lynn Susag to practice the fundamental skills of paper cutting! Create your own paper artwork in this adult-level class (suitable for ages 18 and up).
The class will take place from 6:00-8:00 pm on Monday, August 21st in the second-floor studio at the St. Mane Theatre.
Paper Cutting is an art form found in cultures all around the globe! Since the invention of paper in China in the first century BCE, creatives have been creatively cutting it into decorative designs. It has many iterations from German scherenschnitte to Japanese Kirigami.
Lynn will give a demonstration and explanation of how to follow a paper cutting pattern, before turning the class loose to snip, trim, and unfold their way through delightfully simple yet stunning designs. All participants will go home with a cut-paper masterpiece or two, as well as patterns to continue practicing at home!
Lynn Susag lives in Lanesboro, and enjoys being a creative, hands-on learner. Her interest in paper and scissors really grew when she took her first week-long paper cutting class in 2007 at the John C. Campbell Folk School in North Carolina. Since that time, she has also taken Danish paper cutting at the Vesterheim Museum in Decorah, IA, and Polish paper cutting at the Polish Museum in Winona.
