Description
The Back Room with Performance by Laura Gutierrez and Chun Wai Chan* is an interactive dance performance that will take place in Rec Room’s 600 sq. ft space, with 20 guests allowed in per performance. By eliminating "the fourth wall", this work welcomes audiences to experience dance in an intimate setting.
Date: Thursday, Feb 16th & Friday, Feb 17th
Times: 7:30p & 8:00p (No late seating permitted. Tickets will be released 5 minutes before curtain.)
Tickets: $15 online; $20 at the door. (Please note, if the performance is at maximum capacity, guests will be put on a waitlist to purchase any released tickets.)

Laura Gutierrez is a performing artist and choreographer based in Houston. Gutierrez is a graduate of the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and received her BFA in Contemporary Dance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. She was awarded a Kenan Fellowship at Lincoln Center Education and was named one of Dance Magazines “25 to Watch” in 2014. Her choreography has been shared in Houston and New York. She has performed works by Joan Jonas, Tino Sehgal, Jane Weiner and Roise May among others. Gutierrez has worked with Jonah Bokaer since 2012 and most recently has toured with Bokaer to the American Dance Institute, Soluna Festival, Brisbane Festival, Biennale de la Danse de Lyon, Guggenheim Museum and BAM Next Wave Festival 2016.
Chun Wai Chan* was born in Guang-Dong, China and received his professional dance training under Guang-Zhou Art School from 2004 to 2010. His honorary awards include 1st place in the 2006 CSTD International Ballet Competition in Australia; Finalist in the 2007 Beijing International Competition; 2nd place in the 2009 National Ballet Competition “Tao Li Cup” in China; Finalist in the 2010 Prix de Lausanne and received full scholarship to study with Houston Ballet’s second company(HBII). While attending HBII in 2011, he was awarded “Houston Ballet Academy Award”. Mr. Chan joined Houston Ballet as a corps de ballet in 2012, was promoted to demi soloist in 2015, and soloist in 2016. Most recently, he was named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch” in January 2017.
