The Blockchain Society & Shyft Network are hosting a special conference for investors, regulators, corporate and blockchain thought leaders on September 11, 2018 at Rotman School of Management. For the first time, we will be running a Developer Conference (#ShyftHack) concurrent to The Blockchain Society & Shyft's Thought Leadership Conference.

Andrew Romans is a successful VC-backed entrepreneur, author of Masters of Corporate Venture Capital, The Entrepreneurial Bible to Venture Capital: Inside Secrets from the Leaders in the Startup Game and Masters of Blockchain & Initial Coin Offerings, former tech VC and M&A investment banker, cofounder of an angel group, CEO and General Partner of blockchain focused VC & hedge fund 7BC.VC and General Partner of tech VC Rubicon Venture Capital. Romans raised over $48m for tech startups he founded by the age of 28. Romans founded and raised VC funding for numerous companies and led startups to exits including The Founders Club (VC secondaries and equity exchange fund backed by 42 VCs), Sentito Networks ($58m in VC funding, acquired by Verso Technologies), The Global TeleExchange (raised $50m) and Motive Communications (enterprise sales Europe, NASDAQ IPO).
Jim Orlando is a managing partner of OMERS Ventures leads investments in North American high-growth technology, media, and telecommunications companies. With more than 17 years of experience in venture capital and private equity, Jim has a strong track record of finding deals, closing investments, and working directly with founders, CEOs and management teams on the development and growth of their businesses. He is responsible for OMERS Ventures' investments in Citizen Hex, Digital Currency Group, Jobber, Mojix, Nudge, Ranovus and Wattpad. Jim also led OMERS Ventures’ investment in Shopify (NYSE, TSX: SHOP). Prior to joining OMERS Ventures, Jim was a Managing Director at OMERS Private Equity, which directly owns and actively manages a diversified, multi-billion dollar portfolio of investments in North America and Europe. Jim led direct investments in the manufacturing, software, mobile telephony and retail sectors.
Rob Richards is a high-tech operations veteran with over 25 years of senior management experience in IT, telecom, aerospace, and enterprise software-as-a-service (SaaS). As Chief Operating Officer of one of the first SaaS companies in Canada, Rob helped pioneer the software subscription model and managed the company through its NASDAQ IPO. Since then, he has acted as an early advisor and interim CEO for several start-ups, managing private placements and growth activity. Today, Rob is co-founder of Plaza Ventures, a Toronto-based growth-stage tech VC. Well versed in marketing, sales, R&D and commercialization, Rob serves as PV’s strategy and operations specialist overseeing branding, growth plans and day-to-day operations. Rob sits on the boards of several portfolio companies. He is passionate about the impact of technology on economic and social advancement. Rob obtained his Bachelor of Science (Honors Co-op) in Physics from the University of Waterloo, with a major in digital signal processing. His Honors Thesis was in measuring super-cooled quanta.
Chris Forrester is the Chief Technical Officer at Shyft Network Inc, where she is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of the software and technical stack for the network’s operation. Chris has been working in the crypto ecosystem for nearly five years, and has over 23 years of experience in programming and computer, software development. Prior to becoming the CTO of the Shyft Network, Chris was the chief technical officer at Decentral Inc. leading the development team for the Jaxx mobile wallet, and the integration of various cryptocurrencies and ShapeShift in the wallet. She had as well assisted in building proof-of-concepts with the strategy team for large entities such as the Toronto Stock Exchange. Previous history includes working with portable EEG hardware & software through Interaxon Inc.’s product “Muse”. She is also a shareholder and developer within Block Unity, one of the parent companies of Shyft Network Inc.
Juan Aja Aguinaco is the Chief Operating Officer of Shyft Network International, and is responsible for the administration & operation of the business, and the execution of the company’s business plan. Juan had his first exposure to the digital currency world in 2015, when he joined Decentral, a leading hub for Blockchain development & innovation and the developers of Jaxx, a multi-platform, multi-cryptocurrency Blockchain interface; Juan quickly rose through the ranks and became the company’s Director of Operations and Business Development. After his departure, Juan became a shareholder and COO of BlockUnity, one of the parent companies of Shyft Network International, Inc. He has over six years of professional experience in the fields of corporate and securities law, business innovation and transformation. As VP Legal Counsel of Oro Negro, one of Mexico’s most innovative oil and gas service companies, he actively participated in what became one of the largest high-yield bond issuances in the Norwegian market. Other accolades include serving as counsel for a multinational joint-venture, and as a litigator of a landmark freedom of speech case before Mexico’s Supreme Court of Justice. Juan obtained his law degree in 2009 from the Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City, and, in 2016, obtained his Masters of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business in Toronto, Canada.
Aliza Lakhani is CEO and Dean of Northeastern University Toronto. Most recently, Aliza was head of Business Development and International at The DMZ at Ryerson University, the #1 ranked university tech incubator in the world. Under Aliza’s direction, the DMZ tripled annual revenue through corporate partnerships with Fortune 500 companies and expanded into global markets, including opening an office in New York City. While at the DMZ, she also advised a number of startups on enterprise sales and commercialization opportunities. Aliza spent more than a decade in Financial Services in Canada and the U.S., including several years at the Bank of Montreal in progressively senior roles. At BMO, Aliza built strategic capacity, generated new revenue streams, expanded into international markets and executed large scale transformations. She started her career on the trading floor at RBC Capital Markets and JP Morgan in Toronto and New York where she covered Canada’s largest institutional clients. Aliza serves on the advisory board of C.D. Howe Institute Human Capital Council, #MoveTheDial, Rosenzweig & Company and Tech for Sick Kids Foundation. She was elected Chair of the Board of Directors for Rexdale Women’s Center – a $3MM nonprofit serving high need women and their families. Aliza holds a Bachelor’s of Mathematics with distinction from the University of Waterloo and an MBA from New York University Stern School of Business.
Jamie Rosenblatt is a Principal at Golden Ventures. In his role, Jamie works closely with portfolio founders, entrepreneurs, accelerators, incubators, and the broader startup community, to help find, fund and build exceptional companies. Jamie began his career as a Corporate Development Associate at O’Leary Ventures, a private early-stage investment company owned and chaired by Kevin O’Leary. He then joined Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP where he practiced corporate law with a focus on M&A and corporate finance in the technology sector. Prior to joining Golden Ventures, Jamie was the Head of Business Development for Avid Life Media. He has a JD/MBA from the University of Toronto and a BA in Philosophy from The University of Western Ontario.
Rob Segal is a marketing expert and entrepreneur. Rob co-founded and built CryptoGlobal, one of Canada’s leading publicly-traded blockchain technology companies, which was acquired by HyperBlock in 2018. Early in his career, Rob founded and led Segal Communications (acquired by InterPublic) for more than a decade, working with innovative brands, including Sony, Unilever, Virgin and Facebook. As CEO of WorldGaming, a pioneering eSports company, he led its sale to entertainment giant Cineplex in 2015.
Robert Young is a Managing Director of Research, covering Canadian technology companies, for Canaccord Genuity. He joined Canaccord Genuity as part of the Genuity Capital Markets acquisition in 2010. Robert is also a board member of Waterloo based Dejero Labs. Previously, Robert worked as a technology strategy consultant with IBM and as an engineer with Nortel Networks. Robert holds an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario as well as a Bachelor of Engineering from McMaster University.
Eric So is the Co-Founder & Chief Strategy Officer of Globalive. He is the Chairman of Hyperblock Technologies Corp., a diversified blockchain security (cryptocurrency mining) technology company. He has most recently served on the executive committee for Mundo Inc. where he led business and corporate development. He has previously worked at Synergex Corporation, Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP, and Torys LLP. He earned his law degree at the University of Windsor and his Bachelor of Science at McGill University.
Graham Majoribanks is a Partner at BDO Canada LLP. He provides Assurance and Integrated Accounting Advisory Services for clients across a range of sectors and specializes in financial services and alternative lending / investment, working to understand key business issues and work with clients to help problems and act as a trusted advisor in areas such as private equity, insurance (underwriting and brokerage), investment management, exempt market and other alternative lending and investment. Graham actively promotes international business in his role as Country Coordinator between Canada and the U.K. and Ireland. He serves as Chairman of the Westside Regional Recreation Society, a registered charitable organization with the mission of promoting community through high quality and accessible recreation facilities, programs and services.
Justin Hartzman, is the Co-Founder and CEO of CoinSmart. A seasoned business leader and entrepreneur, Justin’s passion for innovation has seen him lead numerous companies from start-up to successful exit. His proven track record of entrepreneurial success includes founding the first website brokerage exclusively serving online businesses, pioneering the industry and achieving over $100M in transactions to Fortune 1000 companies, PE firms, family offices and venture funds. He has also led multiple fundraising rounds working with Canadian and U.S. Angel Investors and VCs. In addition to leading CoinSmart, Justin is also co-founder of Needls, an Ontario-based company that uses Data Science to automate social media advertising processes for small to medium enterprises worldwide.
Suzanne Ennis is a cryptocurrency & blockchain investor, and advocate, with a unique blend of experience in both legacy finance and cryptocurrencies. On the legacy finance front, Suzanne, as a designated Chartered Investment Manager, worked with some of the largest Asset Managers in the world, mainly in business development both retail and institutional. On the blockchain-based & Cryptocurrency side, she has had an intense focus on business and product development, in the Cryptocurrency Exchange & Securitized Token Space; in the gold & mining sector. Originally from Toronto, Suzanne obtained her Honours Degree from McMaster University in Political Sciences, with an undergrad in psychology. Fluent in French, and lifelong student of Spanish & Japanese language study. A big believer in pushing outside one’s comfort zone, credits most of her education to her travel adventures; working with street children in India; on Shark research boats in South Africa; Ultra marathoning in Greenland; and in 2017 a two week Jungle survival course in the Amazon led by former British Special Forces officer.
