The Cannabis Society is proud to present our Las Vegas 1X1 Executive Conference on December 10th.
With the goal of forming strategic partnerships and investment deals, the 1X1 Executives Conference is a unique way to interact with and hear pitches from vetted cannabis brands, infusion products, credible technology companies, retailers, cultivators, licensed producers and large enterprises.
Among our various partners, a team of industry experts vet presentations in advance to ensure each investment and venture opportunity is a viable and strong business case.
Attending and taking meetings with presenting companies include executives of the largest licensed producers and multi-state operators in Canada and the US, as well as investment groups that focus on the cannabis industry.
The Cannabis 1X1 Executive Conference is structured to include panel discussions from leading industry experts and investment deck presentations from companies, followed by scheduled one-on-one meetings to be held between the Presenters and the Attendees. Meetings are scheduled in advance of the Conference.

Tom Zuber, Managing Partner of Zuber Lawler
Tom Zuber has advised some of the most iconic companies in the world on their patent and trademark portfolios. He is at the cutting edge of cannabis patent and trademark law. Tom holds a law degree from Columbia Law School, a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard Government School, and a biomedical engineering degree from Rutgers University, where he graduated with highest honors. Zuber Lawler is the official US Legal Expert of The Cannabis Society.
David Friedman, Founder, Panther Capital
David Friedman is the Founder of Panther Capital and CFO Worldwide. Friedman is also the acting CEO and publisher of Panther Media, which publishes Marijuana Investor News. He has been direct investing in non-public companies for more than 25 years. Friedman is a serial entrepreneur who easily blends conservative risk management with free-spirited risk seeking. An accounting professional and Chief Financial Officer, his experience cuts across multiple industries and ranges from start-ups to running a billion-dollar family office.
In addition to direct investing, Friedman also has considerable experience as an angel investor, as well as being a principle in both venture capital and private equity firms. Applying the many skills he has learned from navigating rapidly changing business environments, he has been studying the legal cannabis industry looking for investments that have the right blend of low risk and high reward.
Ben Futoriansky, Canopy Rivers Inc.
Ben is an Associate at Canopy Rivers, the venture capital affiliate of Canopy Growth, and the largest cannabis VC fund in the world. Prior to joining Canopy Rivers, Ben was a Consultant for Accenture in their Digital Interactive group. During his time at Accenture, Ben worked across Financial Services, Media & Technology, Resources and Non-Profit organizations focusing on customer experience, digital strategy, and business development. Ben co-founded a travel social network start-up called DestaPlan, allowing users to visually organize trips, coordinate itineraries and share recommendations. Prior to Accenture and DestaPlan, Ben was a Strategy Analyst for Start-up Nation Central in Tel Aviv, where he actively sourced start-ups, prepared industry landscapes, and helped map the Israeli ecosystem. He holds a Bachelor of Business from the Schulich School of Business at York University specializing in Strategy and Finance. He sits on the board of Birthright Excel, a lifelong business fellowship program.
Peter Luber, Co-Founder & Managing Partner, Marin Financing LLC
Mr. Luber is a co-founder and managing partner of Marin Financing LLC. Previously, he was a co-founder and portfolio manager at Post Street Capital Management, a long/short equity hedge fund from 2013-2015. Prior to the founding of Post Street Capital Management, Mr. Luber was an analyst and a portfolio manager at Weintraub Capital Management in San Francisco from 2002 to 2012. At WCM, Peter managed a portfolio focusing on the financial services, energy and industrial sectors. Prior to WCM, Peter was an Associate with Chase Securities, Inc. in their High Yield Corporate Finance Group. At Chase, Peter focused on underwriting and analyzing the debt associated with acquisitions, recapitalizations and capital investment. Peter received his B.A. in economics from Colby College and his MBA from the University of California Berkeley Haas School of Business.
Robert Hunt, Founder & Managing Member, Linnaea Holdings
Robert ("Rob") Hunt is the founder and managing member of Linnaea, a private equity based business created with the express purpose of rolling up and managing California based cannabis assets. In total, he has more than 14 years of experience in cannabis as an attorney, consultant, operator, and investor.
Formerly Rob was the founder and manager of Shingle Hill, a boutique consultancy and market intelligence firm for the cannabis industry where he specialized in assisting his clients with legislative and policy issues, due diligence, and the structuring complicated financial instruments. Through this work, Rob has helped his clients navigate a rapidly evolving legal and regulatory landscape and safely deploy capital into the cannabis industry.
Prior to that, Rob was a founding Partner, and the Lead Industry Executive of Tuatara Capital, the world’s largest private equity firm dedicated to cannabis based businesses. In this role Mr. Hunt was responsible for leading Tuatara’s deal generation efforts, operational due diligence and the execution of new investments. He remains a member of the General Partnership of Tuatara's flagship fund.
As an expert in and an advocate for the cannabis industry, Mr. Hunt has been interviewed by media outlets as diverse as: The BBC, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Entrepreneur, Fortune, US News & World Report, NBC News, ABC News, The Street, BuzzFeed, MarketWatch, Vice, PC Magazine, Wired, Equities.com, CNN Money, Ozy and Rolling Stone as well as numerous other publications and media outlets. He has also taught continuing legal education (“CLE”) classes for The American Lawyer (AmLaw) on cannabis law and policy.
Previously, Rob was the owner and CEO of Rocky Mountain Hydroponics in Colorado, and Evergreen Garden Centers in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. Rob tailored his company to specialize in organic and hydroponic growing methodology to help maximize yields at commercial cultivation centers. He sold this business to GrowLife, Inc. where he then served as both the President of the retail division and a director until the early 2014.
Joe Khoury, CEO & Co-Founder, iRollie
Joe is a business systems, lean ops, emerging technology, and data expert with a focus in the cannabis industry.
Joe began as the CEO & Co-Founder of iRollie, a wholly owned subsidiary of Marimed Advisors. Acquired in 2018, iRollie continues as a b2b wholesaler & manufacturer of innovative smoking accessories & cannabis packaging integrated with streamlined software solutions to maximize customer lifetime value and retention. Joe had developed the lean business systems that allowed a resource strapped team of two to acquisition and profitability.Hailing from Boston with a startup background that spans fin-tech to startup accelerators, Joe has intimate knowledge of structuring the tech that runs modern businesses in a facet of industries. As VP of Business Systems for Marimed, Joe developed the tech architecture and reporting for a number of licenses spanning the full cannabis supply chain with a focus towards standardization and lean manufacturing.
Luke Shepter, Vice President of Packaging and Compliance, MariMed and President of iRollie.
Luke Shepter has a focus on the cannabis packaging and accessories world with specialities including factory/supplier sourcing, new packaging development and design, cannabis compliance, and domestic/international logistics. Luke began in the cannabis industry in the Spring of 2015, cofounding iRollie, an accessories and custom cannabis packaging firm. In April of 2018, MariMed acquired iRollie. Since coming under the MariMed umbrella, iRollie packaging has achieved impressive quantities of scale through purchasing across a large operation. MariMed ops span seven states and include four MariMed brands (one being a line of dispensaries), four licensed partner brands, five partner dispensaries, and two cultivations (See below for details). With these quantities of scale and by working directly with manufactures iRollie offers supreme quality packaging and accessories at a fraction of the cost. The MariMed Technology Department ensures that Luke stays on the forefront of incorporating new digital marketing strategies in cannabis packaging with the focus on customer engagement and retention.
Luke assists MariMed's business development efforts with the goal of expanding MariMed's domestic/international market reach and brand portfolio. Luke is a liaison between MariMed Hemp and CBD specific opportunities including bulk purchasing/selling and emerging brands.
Ross, Founder & CEO, Bonaventure Equity
Ross is the Founder & CEO of Bonaventure Equity, a cannabis venture capital fund, and runs the Cannabis Dealmakers Summit, a series of industry conferences and investment forums. Ross sits on the boards of the Green Ignition Ventures, Florida’s first cannabis accelerator and CannaMexico and is author of “Cannabis Capital” the first book on cannabis venture capital for Entrepreneur Press.
His broad spectrum of private company expertise ranges from starting and operating high growth businesses, to leading numerous Venture Capital, & Private Equity transactions, advising on Mergers & Acquisitions, raising capital and corporate finance internationally.
Ross has taught entrepreneurship and finance and held board positions and has spent his career working with, and advising family offices on their self-directed private equity investing activities. He advised for programs on investing, entrepreneurship and impact investing at MIT and Harvard and was on the steering committee that launched TechRunway at Florida Atlantic University where his Entrepreneurship Bootcamp program is still taught.
Ross worked on Wall Street with a boutique N.Y. Investment banking firm, was a Manager at Geller & Company and an Assistant Vice President at JP Morgan Chase. He holds an MBA from Fordham University and a BS in Business Marketing Management from Ferris State University. He also holds his Series 79 and 63 securities licenses.

A graduate of Concordia University (Bachelor of Commerce, Marketing/Finance), James has an established track-record of creating successful business development opportunities, building growth organizations, and establishing lasting customer relationships in diverse fields including communications, emerging technologies, energy management and now cannabis across both Canada and international markets.
As Vice-President for Business Development, James plays a leading role in identifying strategic opportunities in the expanding cannabis market.
