The Cannabis Society is proud to present our Los Angeles 1X1 Executive Conference on September 27th.
With the goal of forming strategic partnerships and investment deals, the 1X1 Executives Conference is a unique way to interact with and hear pitches from vetted cannabis brands, infusion products, credible technology companies, retailers, cultivators, licensed producers and large enterprises.
Among our various partners, a team of industry experts vet presentations in advance to ensure each investment and venture opportunity is a viable and strong business case.
Attending and taking meetings with presenting companies include executives of the largest licensed producers and multi-state operators in Canada and the US, as well as investment groups that focus on the cannabis industry.
The Cannabis 1X1 Executive Conference is structured to include panel discussions from leading industry experts and investment deck presentations from companies, followed by scheduled one-on-one meetings to be held between the Presenters and the Attendees. Meetings are scheduled in advance of the Conference.

Joshua Masur's legal practice focuses on intellectual property litigation (primarily patent and copyright) and general business litigation for technology companies. In particular, Josh's practice emphasizes issues surrounding computers, software, and networks, as well as mass and interpersonal communications in both new and traditional media.Before Josh became a lawyer, he worked as a computer and networking consultant and graphic designer, and was one of the first professional developers of content for the World Wide Web. In 1994, he co-founded the nonprofit World Wide Web Artists’ Consortium.Josh frequently writes and speaks for professional and academic audiences on intellectual property, legal ethics, defamation, and privacy, especially as those topics relate to the Internet and computers.

Joyce Cenali, Founding Partner and Chief Operating Officer for Big Rock Partners
Joyce leads operations at Big Rock Partners, a strategic advisory firm serving investors and companies at the intersection of food, hospitality and cannabis. Their portfolio includes PharmaCann, Cannacraft, Phylos, Kikoko, Sonoma Hills Farm, Garden Society, Sava, and others. She previously founded a boutique artist management firm, and lead business development, licensing and partner integrations for e-commerce start-ups. A long time craft cannabis cultivator, she co-founded an Emerald Cup winning operation, and served as Co-Chair for Women Grow, Sonoma. She attended Smith College, and lives with her wife and puppy children in San Francisco.
Viken Douzdjian, General Partner & Co-Founder for Argonautic Ventures SPC
Viken is founding partner at Argonautic Ventures, an early-stage investment fund. Prior to Argonautic Ventures, Viken served as COO of Trellis, a compliance software company. At Trellis, Viken implements processes and builds a team to scale a compliance software company in the rapidly growing cannabis industry. Trellis’ clients include operators in California, Canada and other global cannabis markets. Prior to Trellis, Viken was an investment professional at Marlin Equity Partners, a technology-focused private equity firm. Viken evaluated platform and add-on investment opportunities and worked closely with management teams to ensure growth and value initiatives are being implemented effectively. While at Marlin, Viken specialized in restructurings and complex corporate carve-outs of technology and technology-enabled services companies. He assisted with Marlin's public equity presence with investments in publicly traded technology companies, such as Tangoe Inc.’s take-private. Prior to Marlin, Viken worked in the M&A technology group at Wells Fargo's Investment Bank in San Francisco where he focused on software, hardware, internet and semiconductor verticals. He specialized in Mergers and Acquisitions, Debt Financings, and Strategic Advisory. Viken earned a Bachelor of Arts in Financial Economics from Claremont McKenna College, where he graduated with honors and as a Bill Gates Investments Fellow. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Claremont McKenna College's Financial Economics Institute.
Andrew Roche, VP of Finance at Poseidon
At Poseidon, Andy, CPA, Notary Public, is the VP of Finance. In this role, he has worked on the diligencing of well over 100 companies, overseeing 20+ investments and reviewed hundreds of businesses across all verticals of the cannabis industry. Andy is skilled in financial modeling and venture capital financings as well as passionate about the underlying science, a skillset he leverages in understanding the cannabis industry from an empirical perspective.
Additionally, Andy leads Poseidon's accounting operations, overseeing monthly and quarterly NAV, annual audit, as well as tax return preparation. Andy works closely with many of Poseidon's portfolio companies, providing support as needed.
Prior to joining Poseidon, Andy was an auditor for Deloitte and Touche in their New York City office. At Deloitte, Andy was a member of the lead audit engagement of a large public company getting detailed experience in the financial close and reporting process. During his last 10-K audit, Andy spearheaded the audit of a multi-billion dollar diversified investments portfolio. His critical perspective as auditor lends valuable insight tothe due diligence process as well as a platform for providing meaningful assistance to Poseidon’s portfolio companies.
During his undergrad, Andy received his BS in accounting at the State University of New York at Geneseo. Andy spent summers interning at an electronics component manufacturing company in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, as well as a healthcare imaging company in Rochester, NY.
Jacques Habra, Founder & CEO, Noospheric
Jacques Habra is an award-winning serial entrepreneur recognized by national and regional media for excellence in entrepreneurship, leadership, and innovation. Jacques was the lead investor in FirstClick, SelfEcho, and TrackR which recently won $50MM in Series B funding through the Amazon Alexa Fund. Jacques led early-stage fundraising for Grown Rogue (CSE: GRIN | OTC: GRUSF) and co-led the company's public offering in late 2018. Jacques manages the Noospheric fund which is a $15MM investment fund focused on early-stage startups in tech, cannabis, and real estate ventures. Jacques graduated with degrees in Philosophy and English from the University of Michigan with Honors.
Danny Brody, Chief Corporate Office, Hemp Fusion
Danny Brody is a co-founder and former Vice President of The Green Organic Dutchman Holdings Ltd. (TGOD) Mr. Brody and his team have been instrumental in capitalizing and listing world class cannabis companies including Emblem (TSX-V:EMC), TGOD (TSX:TGOD), and PLUS Products (CSE:PLUS). Prior to entering the Cannabis industry in 2014, Mr. Brody spent five years at a leading independent Canadian brokerage firm.

Her 20+ year background is in starting, growing, and improving companies across a variety of industries, including technology, multi-media, education, and non-profits. Bill De Zenzo has over 25 years of experience serving tech industry administrations at companies like Oracle, and eVault, with serial success along the way as an entrepreneur with BioData, and Telnexus LLC. Bill uses his experience in Business Analysis, Marketing, Public Relations, and Networking to bolster productive business relationships, with a focus on customer success. Bill helped conceive Taxnexus using proprietary IP to fix the tax compliance issue in the cannabis industry. As EVP of Business Development, Bill creates awareness of Taxnexus within the cannabis industry for partnerships, customer acquisition, and funding.
Brett Fink, CEO, Greater Goods
Brett Fink is the CEO of Greater Goods, a brand accelerator focused on the incubation and launch of nationwide cannabis brands. Brett was also the first employee and Senior Vice President of the California brand Old Pal. As employee #1 he helped launch the brand in California and spin up new markets across the US.
Prior to Old Pal, Brett led part of the 500 Startups seed program in Silicon Valley where he worked with hundreds of companies from 0 to 50M in revenue and was an employee at consumer brands such as Snapchat and Casper through growth rounds.

Chi-Chien Hou, Managing Director, AFI Capital Partners
Chi is a Managing Director at AFI Capital Partners, a growth equity firm focused on the cannabis space. To date, AFI has invested in 17 cannabis-related companies, including Headset, Willow Industries, Front Range Biosciences, Leif Goods, and Groundworks.
Prior to AFI, Chi spent fifteen years in lower middle market investing, serving as a principal for both Star Avenue Capital and Innovate Partners, and has deployed over $100 million on these platforms. He also spent seven years in strategy and operating roles at Gap Inc.
Chi has a BS from Yale College and an MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA. He resides in Los Angeles with his wife and three children and will apparently be working forever.
Howard Katz, Managing Director, Mackie Research Capital
Howard is a 20 year capital markets veteran with a broad range of experience including both financing and advisory mandates to a wide range of sectors in the Canadian markets. Howard also has extensive management experience as a successful CEO having profitably sold his privately-held company in 2016. As a senior investment banker, Howard has led or co-managed billions of dollars in the junior and mid-cap sector in Canada. Howard is focused on the technology sector and special situations, providing advisory and finance solutions to clients, whereby leading management teams can share their successes with investors. Howard is a graduate of Yeshiva University, and earned his MBA from the Schulich School of Business.
Jared Cohen, CIO, The Glass House Group
Jared Cohen is the Chief Investment Officer for The Glass House Group where he is responsible for M&A and strategy. Jared is also an active private investor and entrepreneur, focusing on providing capital and expertise to assist early stage and growth companies. Mr. Cohen brings 20 years of public and private investing experience across multiple industries and throughout the capital structure.
Mr. Cohen spent 10 years at Fortress Investment Group as a Partner in the Credit Funds. Before joining Fortress, Mr. Cohen was a Vice President at Merrill Lynch in a principal investing role and began his career as an investment banking analyst at Morgan Stanley.
Jared is a graduate of University of California, Los Angeles, is a CFA charterholder and a member of the Milken Young Leaders Circle. Jared currently serves on the board of Big Heart Ranch, Legion of Bloom, F/eld Extracts and the Advisory Board of The Prumentum Group.
Rob Slingerland, Chief Corporate Development Officer, Canndescent
Rob Slingerland served as Chief Corporate Development Officer for Canndescent and continues as an advisor to the company.Rob led Canndescent’s multi-state expansion effort and signed deals for acquisitions in MA, MI and NV.Rob also negotiated and structured multiple licencing and partnership deals and played an instrumental role in Canndescent’s recent capital raise.
Skilled in corporate development, strategy, operations, and finance, Rob has succeeded in several senior roles including CEO, CFO, corporate and business development in a broad range of industries including cannabis, fintech-insurtech, insurance, internet, b2b, entertainment, and mobile storage. Prior companies include private equity and venture-backed companies as well as Fortune 100 companies including Disney, Clear Channel, and Allstate.
Prior to joining Canndescent, Rob was CEO & President of Answer Financial where he and his team built one the early success stories in the insurtech space. Under Rob’s leadership, Answer grew from under $15 million in revenue to over $80 million and was acquired by Allstate, a successful exit for Answer’s backers.
Bill Stark, Co-Founder and VP of Business Development, The Peak Beyond
Bill co-founded The Peak Beyond in 2016, and his main responsibilities include developing strategies for growth. He has been an entrepreneur in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past seven years. In addition to his work at The Peak Beyond, Bill acted as the CEO of Nectar Ventures, where he consulted businesses on establishing brand identities, product development and design, and go to market strategy. Bill has been involved in many other private ventures, including retail health and wellness product manufacturing, interior design and building, and a martial arts studio.
