“What is #FoBAB?” The Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beer (#FoBAB) is this planet’s largest celebration of wood and barrel aged beer, highlighting styles of beer that have been aged in a wooden barrel or in contact with wood. #FoBAB celebrates the brilliance of barrel-aging beer on wood, and is orchestrated by the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild (#ICBG). This nationally recognized beer festival also features The National Wood Aged Beer Competition. Wood and barrel-aged beers are submitted from around the world and are professionally judged by industry leaders and certified judges. 15th Annual #FoBAB will be held on two days: November 10th and 11th UIC Forum 725 W Roosevelt Rd. Chicago, IL 60607 FoBAB sessions are: Friday November 10th- 6pm to 10pm Saturday November 11th- 1pm to 5pm Saturday November 11th- 6p to 10pm Over 150 breweries and 350 individual beers will be pouring at tables spread within an expanded 24,000 square foot space. We will have catering services available within the building. The National Wood Aged Beer Competition is judged by a panel of industry experts prior to the public sessions. Each beer is judged on the basis of how that underlying style reflects the expression of wood and/or barrel character. Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals are awarded in 12 categories as well as “Best of Show.” 2017 National Wood-Aged Beer Competition (Style Categories): 1. Strong Porter/Stout (>7% abv.) 2. Specialty Strong Porter/Stout (>7% abv.) 3. Barleywine/Wheatwine 4. Classic Beer Styles (>7% abv.) 5. Strong Pale Beer (> 7% abv.) 6. Strong Dark Beer (> 7% abv.) 7. Fruit Beer 8. Specialty/Experimental Beer 9. Wild Beer/Brett (non-acidic) 10. Wild Beer/Sours (acidic) 11. Wild Beer/Sours (acidic) w/Fruit 12. Cider/Mead/Perry PLEASE NOTE: Tickets go on sale Thursday, September 14th at 10AM CST. Tickets are $85 plus payment processing fee: 3% through Universe. Each transaction is allowed up to four (4) tickets. Each ticket holder will receive a complimentary glass, a FoBAB booklet, and 20 sampling tickets. All sales are final.
