What is Love? This question has plagued philosophers, authors, artists, musicians and dreamy-eyed, socially awkward teenagers alike since the beginning of time. But WHAT IS IT? Is it your pounding heart? Your sweaty palms? The butterflies in your stomach? The level of intimacy that lets you fart in front of your S.O. and laugh about it? Author Carrie Jenkins and Offbeat Empire Founder Ariel Meadow Stallings talk about Carrie’s book What Love Is and What it Could Be. We’ll laugh, we’ll cry, we’ll hope, we’ll commiserate as we discuss the history, science, philosophy and politics of love.
Carrie is a professor of philosophy at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, a nationally elected Canada Research Chair, and the principal investigator on the collaborative research project the Nature of Love, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Ariel is the Founder and Publisher of the Offbeat Empire, and author of Offbeat Bride: Creative Alternatives for Independent Brides. She graduated from the Columbia Publishing Course at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism in 2001. Her work has been featured in the New York Times, Today Show, and The Guardian.
