The GRAMMY Museum is thrilled to host an evening celebrating the music behind STAR WARS JEDI: SURVIVOR, which is currently GRAMMY nominated for Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media. The event will feature a special panel discussion moderated by Variety’s Jon Burlingame featuring composers Gordy Haab and Stephen Barton, plus Engineer/Score Mixer/Producer Alan Meyerson.
ABOUT GORDY HAAB:
Gordy Haab is a prolific, award-winning composer celebrated for his exceptional contributions to film, video games, and television. His illustrious portfolio includes iconic titles such as Star Wars: Squadrons, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Halo Wars 2, and Star Wars: Battlefront I and II, among others.
In 2022, Haab earned an International Film Music Critics award nomination for his outstanding work on the feature film My Country, My Parents. The Society of Composers and Lyricists bestowed upon him the inaugural "Music City Maestro" Award in recognition of his unwavering support for the Nashville music and recording community. In October 2022, his music from Star Wars: Battlefront I and II enchanted audiences when featured in DICE’s 30th-anniversary concert series, performed by the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm.
Haab secured ASCAP's Composers Choice award for Video Game Composer of the Year in 2020 for the second time in three years. He also clinched the inaugural Society of Composers and Lyricists Award for Best Interactive Score and the coveted Music of the Year accolade at the 18th annual Game Audio Network Guild Awards for his collaboration with composer Stephen Barton on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Billboard recognized his exceptional talent in 2018, suggesting he could be the "Heir apparent to John Williams."
In addition to his illustrious gaming credits, Haab's diverse repertoire includes film, television, and video game projects such as Anchor Bay's Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, MTV's The Truth Below, and LucasArts' Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings, to name a few.
ABOUT STEPHEN BARTON:
Composer Stephen Barton has left an indelible mark on the realms of film, television, and video games, boasting a prolific career that spans these diverse mediums. His remarkable contributions include composing for renowned projects such as Star Trek: Picard, all sixteen seasons of Apex Legends, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Multiversus, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, 12 Monkeys, and Unlocked, among numerous others. Barton's influence extends to the world of live service gaming, with titles like Apex and Multiversus captivating over 300 million regular players worldwide through his musical talent.
Born in 1982, Barton's musical journey commenced at an astonishingly young age. At just eight years old, he earned a prestigious scholarship, enabling him to sing in Winchester Cathedral Choir and perform on renowned stages worldwide, including the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, and the Royal Albert Hall. His angelic voice graced more than a dozen albums.
Embarking on his composing career at 19, Barton served as an assistant to the acclaimed Harry Gregson-Williams, relocating from the UK to Los Angeles in 2001. Beyond composing, he actively explores spatial and immersive music for virtual, augmented, and extended reality, contributing his expertise to formats like Dolby Atmos and Auro-3D. He is a member of Abbey Road's Spatial Audio research group, the GRAMMY immersive audio committee, and consults major companies on immersive and binaural audio techniques for music.
In addition to his digital endeavors, Barton maintains an active presence as a conductor and pianist. Collaborating with luminaries like Sir Anthony Hopkins and performing with prestigious orchestras such as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and Colorado Symphony Orchestra, he continues to shape the world of music with his multifaceted talents.
ABOUT ALAN MEYERSON:
Alan Meyerson, who began his career as a young student studying classical trumpet and later apprenticed in the music recording industry, has worked on more than 300 movie and video game scores during his four-decade career as an engineer/score mixer. Well known for his 30-year residency at Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control Productions, Meyerson’s long list of credits include a wide array of films such as The Haunted Mansion (2023), Dune (2021), The Lion King (2019), Dunkirk (2017), Wonder Woman (2017) and The Dark Knight (2008), for which he won a Grammy Award® (Best Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture, Television or other Visual Media). Meyerson’s credits also extend to video games including Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Halo and Gears of War; as well as recording artists Moby, Pharrell Williams, deadmau5 and Daft Punk.
ABOUT JON BURLINGAME:
Jon Burlingame is the nation’s leading writer on the subject of music for films and television. He writes regularly for Variety and, over the past 30 years, has also written on the topic for such leading newspapers as The New York Times, Los Angeles Times and the Washington Post; and such magazines as Premiere, Emmy and The Hollywood Reporter.
Burlingame is the author of six books, including THE MUSIC OF JAMES BOND and mostly recently MUSIC FOR PRIME TIME, a history of TV themes and scoring. He also teaches film music history at the University of Southern California and has, for the past four years, hosted Disney’s award-winning “For Scores” podcast featuring conversations with film and TV composers ranging from John Williams to Alan Menken and Randy Newman.
