The Purple Day Gala is our signature fundraiser,
providing the core of our financial resources to
improve the lives of persons living with epilepsy,
their families and their communities. Our annual
event presents an opportunity to network with more
than 300 leaders in the Corporate, Healthcare,
Volunteer and Philanthropic Communities while
enjoying a culinary feast and exciting entertainment.
ABOUT EANS:
The Epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia (EANS)
have been providing services and support for
approximately 38 years for persons living with
epilepsy, their families and communities.
Our mission is outreach services and improved
understanding about epilepsy. We provide services
such as education, Seizure First Aid, support groups,
advocacy, scholarships and bursaries as well as
supporting research. As a measure of the work we
do, in 2016, EANS authored a program entitled Project
HOPE (Health of Persons with Epilepsy),
designed to positively impact the health of persons
living with epilepsy. This program was the recipient of
the EISAI Global Health Care Award.
ABOUT PURPLE DAY:
Nova Scotia native Cassidy Megan, founded Purple
Day in 2008 at the age of 8. Motivated by her own
struggles with epilepsy, Cassidy’s goal was to get
people talking about epilepsy in an effort to dispel
myths, reduce stigma and let those living with
epilepsy know they are not alone. Cassidy Megan is a
member and volunteer with the Epilepsy Association
of Nova Scotia.
2018 will mark the 10th anniversary of Purple Day. On
March 26th, Purple Day is celebrated in over 70 countries
and on every continent. More people around the
world are wearing purple and hosting events in
support of epilepsy awareness. On June 28, 2012, the
Canadian Government passed the Purple Day Act
making March 26th officially Purple Day in Canada.
