Longtime friend of the Palace and (as of October 7) former New York Post Chief Film Critic Lou Lumenick introduces the movie about Dorothy’s magical journey along the Yellow Brick Road. Following Lou's introduction is a live musical performance by American Idol Top 10 Finalist Anwar Robinson and performers from Broadway Performing Arts Center dressed as munchkins.
After the movie, Lou will host a Q&A with Tiffany Vazquez, the Saturday Daytime host of Turner Classic Movies. She joined TCM in May 2016, becoming the third host hired in the network's history. Born in Bronx, New York and raised in Queens, Vazquez holds two graduate degrees, one from Saint John's University in international communications and the other from New York University in cinema studies having interned at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. In 2014 Vazquez entered and won TCM's 20th Anniversary Ultimate Fan Contest, flying to Atlanta to introduce a film of her choice on-air with Robert Osborne.
Plot summary: When a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy and her dog, Toto, are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz. They follow the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard, and en route they meet a Scarecrow that needs a brain, a Tin Man missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who wants courage. The wizard asks the group to bring him the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West to earn his help.
