Description
Theatre Club is going online!
A bit like a book group, but for theatre, we usually meet after a live theatre show once a month or so. During this period of social distancing we'll be meeting every fortnight to discuss a recorded production you can watch in the comfort of your own home, in your own time.
Watch the nominated show in advance, bring your own snacks, and settle down for a friendly chat. So far we have chosen:
For the session on the 13 May: Bedlam Before the Burnout, a ten minute new monologue from playwright Aisha Zia, commissioned by HighTide Theatre.
For the session on the 27 May: Wise Children, the inaugural production by Emma Rice's production company of the same name, filmed live at York Theatre Royal in 2019.
For the session on the 10 June: Reasons to be Cheerful, a raucous musical featuring the hits of Ian Drury and the Blockheads. A Graeae Theatre Company production in association with the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry, directed by Jenny Sealey. (Available from the 3 June).
For the session on the 24 June: The Unknown Island, a beautiful, inventive and rebellious adventure story, based on Nobel Prize-winning novelist Jose Saramago’s short story, the tale of the Unknown Island, adapted for the stage by Ellen McDougall and Clare Slater and performed at the Gate Theatre, Notting Hill.
Further selections will be announced nearer the dates of the sessions.

Group access information
This group will run live each week via Zoom, an online streaming website. Zoom is an online platform which allows you to talk live to the group leader and other participants via a video or audio call. Each session is designed to be stand alone and you need to book each session individually. As this group is live, you will need to be available at the time specified to participate.
To access the group you will be sent a link to a Zoom meeting on the day of each session that you have booked. You will also need access to a device with an internet connection, a microphone and speakers– a computer, laptop, phone or tablet should do the job. If you would like to participate via video as well as audio, your device will also need a camera.
Prior to each session, if you are new
to the group, our team will be in touch via email to send details of how to log in. If you have booked multiple
sessions and your details change between sessions, please let us know.
We will have a member of our team on standby for the first two sessions
to assist you with any issues you may have accessing the group. Simply
email us at
west.end.centre@hampshireculturaltrust.org.uk if you need help.
