UpFront & Personal is a concert series dedicated to bringing the best original music in the region to downtown Belleville. This month we're featuring This Machine Kills Fascists – an evening of songs of struggle, songs of resistance, fight songs, rally songs, songs that changed the world presented by Dan Clost and Randy Stewart.
Dan Clost is from Trenton, Ontario and is well known for including rally songs in his repertoire. You can find Dan and his band mates - Me & the Other Two - playing songs of change along with some folk, a bit of Celtic, and East Coast tunes at local festivals, restaurants and community stages throughout the region.
Randy Stewart is a Canadian singer/songwriter who has been performing professionally for more than 30 years. He has been seen on television, heard on radio and recorded by the CBC. His recordings can be found in the delete bins of some of the country’s finest record stores.
He has been crusading for years to purge love songs from his performances. His mantra – Sad Songs & Funny Songs ‘I DON’T PLAY LOVE SONGS’ – has become familiar to music fans throughout the region and lead him to seach for the unexpected songs found in the cannons of resistance and protest movements.
“There are a lot of performers out there singing about love and relationships – I’m just not one of ‘em”.
