The 24/25 Skills Series have been updated to enhance individual player development. Based on player and parent feedback our Skills Series will be Position Specific. Developing individuals' skills, tailored to forwards or backs. Both Forwards and Backs Workshops follow the same structure. Each workshop will include 2 blocks, focusing on Open Play and Set Piece, with 4 skill zones per block.
Lead by Bath Rugby's Rugby Development Officers, these sessions have been designed to include open play skill development as well as Set Piece.
Forwards Workshops:
Open Play
Attack - Ball Carrier
Defence - Low tackle technique and double tackles
The Breakdown - Securing
The Breakdown - Contesting Possession
Set Piece
Pod System
Pick and Go - Attacking the fringes
Scrum Technique - Age-appropriate introduction and preparation
Line out - Introduction and technique to lifting, jumping and throwing
Backs Workshops:
Open Play
Passing - Developing speed and distance of pass
Running - Sprint technique
Attack - Building momentum
Defence - Clarity in communication and connection to apply pressure
Set Piece
Lines of running - Off of a scrum or lineout
Decision making - Reading of the opposition in attack and defence
Kicking - Understand types of kicking, how to execute accurately and when to use them
Kick Receipt - Reacting to various types of kicks through defensive positioning, transition to attackWhat to expect:
17:45 Player Arrival:
We ask all parents to please park up and one of our coaches will be present in the car park to direct you to our sign in desk.
17:55 Warm up
Once signed in, players to transition to pitch for team warm up.
18:10 On Pitch Sessions
These sessions will cover a range of skills touching on key components needed for developing yourself as a well-rounded rugby player.
20:00 Debrief and Departure
Our friendly coaches will ensure you leave armed with key knowledge and individual skillsets, which can be applied across club and school rugby.
