UpFront & Personal is a concert series dedicated to bringing the best original music in the region to downtown Belleville. This month we're featuring a debut performance of the triple simple trio - The WILLFUL IGNORANTS.
The WILLFUL IGNORANTS are three musical friends sharing songs - some original and some just outrageous - and stories - mostly 'alternative facts' - all wound together to keep audiences checking their funny bones.
Speaking No Evil is Ron Marshall - a singer/songwriter who lives in the woods outside of Havelock and claims to have no musical direction whatsoever. He writes about whatever rattles around in his empty head for a long enough time. This means you’ll hear songs about kissing neighbours, how the right car can get you into heaven, renegade mothers, hobos, danger on horseback, and more. You’ll also share Ron’s laughter at some of the circumstances surrounding the songs and other music in his life.
Seeing No Evil is Paul Speight - born in a shotgun shack in the Louisiana bayou. He made his living mostly by wrestling alligators until a bar fight landed him in prison - where he learned to play guitar and the power of the unique music all around him. Since the prison break, he's been living a quiet, secluded life in the woods outside Marmora in eastern Ontario - but every once and in a while...
Hearing No Evil is Randy Stewart - a Canadian singer/songwriter who has been crusading for years to purge love songs from his performances. His mantra - Sad Songs & Funny Songs ‘I DON’T PLAY LOVE SONGS’ - has become familiar to music fans throughout the region. The lovelorn, lovesick and skeptical can take refuge when Mr. Stewart takes the stage to give them something to sing about – that doesn’t wear its heart on its sleeve.

He has been performing professionally for more than 30 years - and has been seen on television, heard on radio and recorded by the CBC. His recordings can be found in the delete bins of some of the country’s finest record stores.
