With the resurgence of interest in self-sufficiency and sustainable living, canning has seen a revival, providing a way to ensure food security and promote healthier eating habits. It also connects us to our past, echoing the traditions of our ancestors who preserved their harvest for leaner times. Learn basic canning techniques based on University of Minnesota and Ball’s Blue Book Guide to Preserving. Instructors will cover the water bath methods, not pressure canning. This will not be a hands-on cooking class. Included will be explanations and discussion, as well as how to properly examine canning equipment.
This class will be held at the Bayport Public Library, 582 4th St N, Bayport, MN 55003
Instructor: Laura Hathaway and Christi Schmidt, Washington County Master Gardeners and Certified Food Preservations Consultants, and a State of MN registered cottage food producer.
Cost: $5/free for co-op owners
