KHOTIN (Ghostly International, Edmonton)
Khotin is the recording project of Edmonton-based electronic artist Dylan Khotin-Foote. Over the last decade, the producer has drifted freely between genre experiments, every move linked by distinct melodic and impressionistic sensibility. His dance-leaning output, marked by years of involvement in Vancouver's underground landscape, is both offset and informed by a deep interest in downtempo sound, the mood of stillness, the melancholy after the club. A Khotin track has an instantly recognizable swirl: warped synth, breakbeats, and piano mingling with wistful samples, field recordings, and other abstract snippets.
In 2014, Khotin released his debut album on 1080p, followed by a run of 12"s and remixes on labels such as 4AD, DFA, Pacific Rhythm, as well as his own self-release imprints Khotin Industries and Waterpark. Khotin signed to Ghostly International in 2019, giving a wider vinyl release to the previous year's tape, Beautiful You, a nostalgia-nudging study on melody and memory that captivated a cult following and earned a rare 4.5 review in Resident Advisor. His nextcollection, Finds You Well, further refined the sound, landing in Mixmag's Albums of 2020. With his forthcoming LP, Release Spirit, Khotin releases himself from the pressure of expectation; it finds him freer and more intentional, focusing on tone, pacing, and dynamism, shaping environments from the inside out. A definitive Khotin full-length, is out now on Ghostly International.
Khotin will be performing a live ambient set on Sunday, August 7 at Banfield Park. For Saturday, August 5, he will be DJing a set of dance-oriented music.https://heart.bandcamp.com/album/release-spirit
ÆNNIÆ (Victoria)
Ænniæ is one of most celebrated DJs in the Victoria underground scene right now. Her ability to float across genres with ease, and mix together spellbinding sounds is second-to-none. Late nights are her playground and we're excited to have Ænniæ in our last slot to finish with a bang.https://soundcloud.com/aenniae
OKPK (Victoria)
okpk is the solo project of Dan Godlovitch, exploring the textured, cinematic edges of modern bass music. Equally interested in 3am club energy and the soundtrack to the walk home, okpk plays with rhythm, texture, and mood in their dense and detailed studio productions. okpk has always had deep roots in live performance on a range of electronic instruments and has appeared at festivals from Bass Coast to Sled Island to New Forms.
BIG BODY (Victoria)
Big Body is Victoria DJ/Promoter Ian Hoar. The founder of Vibrate Victoria, he's a long time dancefloor fixture in-front and behind the booth. Big Body is a dancer's DJ, picking ecstatic fast-paced 4/4 selections in the house/techno/trance vein. Expect some swirling hypnotic sounds peppered into some big bright progressive/trance tunes to start off the night.
