Women Grow is honored to announce that Elaine Nuessler, cannabis activist and grandmother of Kyla Williams, a little girl with epilepsy who went from suffering from over 300 seizures per day to less than one per week after beginning regimen of taking cannabis oil, will be the keynote speaker of the evening. Elaine is the co-founder of “Kyla’s Quest: medical cannabis for sick kids”, a non-profit organization supporting the use of cannabis oil for children. She and her husband Chris Nuessler, a retired RCMP officer, have been strong advocates of cannabis and of the people who need this medicine, and Women Grow is thrilled to have them at this eventThe second presenter of the night will be Jennifer Dunne, a Registered Nurse who finds her passion in cannabis nursing. Dunne first recognized the health benefits of cannabis while studying nursing at the University of Saskatchewan in 1998. It was during Dunne’s second year, that she invited a gentleman with MS to speak to the relief that smoking marijuana allowed for him. This initiated Dunne’s professional conviction to facilitate the awareness of the therapeutic benefit of cannabis within the health care community and beyond. As a nurse, Jennifer Dunne strives to advocate for clients by facilitating their understanding of the cannabis plant. Dunne will continue to raise community awareness through the provision of education and through partnership with the medical community to increase patient access to medical cannabis. Getting to know the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) was Dunne’s “ah-ha” moment as a nurse. Such acquired knowledge solidified her desire to carry out the work that she is currently doing. Dunne will continue on her journey of cannabis nursing, as she is very eager to spread the word on this top regulatory system in our human body, called the Endocannabinoid System. Dunne knows her calling to Cannabis Nursing will be a blessed one. Given the sentiment of the evening, Women Grow hopes to raise both awareness and money for a 5-year old local boy from Nelson, Alistair Bellefeuille, who is battling diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), a very difficult to treat, aggressive brain cancer. Donations will be able to be made at this event to help Alistair and his family with the costs of his many medical treatments and therapies.
